President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in her capacity as Patron of Road Safety in Namibia, is calling for heightened alertness on the roads during the festive season. 

 The President's appeal comes as Namibia has recorded 2,793 road crashes, resulting in 431 fatalities and 4,565 injuries from January to mid-November this year. 

Today's fatal accident, which claimed the lives of 5 people in the Onyaanya Constituency of the Oshikoto region, adds to these figures, although authorities have yet to release the updated official tally.

The festive season, however, remains one of the busiest periods on the roads, as travellers head to holiday destinations outside the major towns.

Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed hopes that the country will one day record significantly fewer accidents.

"So that the resources we are spending can be spent on issues that are of common interest to us, particularly on our economic recovery and for us to provide quality health services to people and for all Namibians to have a dignified life. Let us make sure that the space on our roads is a space for everybody. Each one of us must make sure that we prepare our vehicles properly and we are alert when we are driving."

As Patron of National Road Safety in Namibia, the President continues to lend her voice for compliance with traffic laws, as they say safety begins with every driver who gets behind the wheel.
