Kunene Police Commander Eric Clay has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads during this festive season.

The region recorded 3 fatalities, 6 serious injuries and 6 crashes at the start of this festive season.

"We note with concern that road crashes are slightly increasing, and therefore we caution drivers to obey road traffic rules at all times and to cooperate with our officers on duty. Motorists are further urged to plan their routes properly, wear safety belts and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and overspending. Those who do so will face serious consequences."

Speaking at the Omakange settlement during the launch of the region's festive season operation, Commissioner Clay, in addition, says the region continues to battle with cases of stock theft, housebreaking, possession of illicit drugs, and theft of water pumps.

In a speech read on his behalf by Phillip Likando, personal assistant to the governor, Kunene Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua says every safety intervention by the police should not be viewed as an inconvenience but as a critical life-saving measure.

"I call upon traditional leaders, community policing forums, faith-based organisations and youth structures to work closely with the Namibian Police Force. A safer Namibia cannot be police alone; it must be co-produced by communities and law enforcement working in trust and partnership."

During the 2024/2025 financial year, the region recorded 2,014, while this year 1,498 cases were reported.

The operation, which kicked off on 15 November 2025, will end on 16 January 2026.

300 officers have been deployed across the region's 7 constituencies to maintain law and order.
