The Shoprite mobile soup kitchen initiative, which started in 2019, continues to receive praise for its contribution to food security and hunger alleviation across the country.

Through the programme, Shoprite provides soup to 500 people per day at informal settlements, schools, soccer fields, and open spaces where people gather.

The soup is distributed three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and is available to people of all ages, aiming to reduce hunger in communities.

Shoprite Soup Kitchen Assistant Manager Ndilimeke Fernandu said the initiative is grateful for the opportunity to feed the nation and help prevent malnutrition, especially among children who make up the majority of beneficiaries.

The soup is prepared on site inside a mobile kitchen van, where it is cooked and immediately distributed to community members.

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge and Oshakati Town Council Mayor Leonard Hango commended the initiative, saying it plays an important role in strengthening food security and supporting vulnerable communities.

The initiative is further applauded for fighting hunger among the people, as the soup is distributed free of charge.
