The festive season road safety campaign was conducted at the Windhoek‑Okahandja roadblock, with authorities stepping up efforts to ensure safe travel during the holiday period.
The initiative is conducted in collaboration with the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), Xiphos Security Company, Security Knights, PSU, G4S, and other key stakeholders committed to ensuring the safety of road users.
The campaign focused on raising awareness among drivers and travellers on responsible road use and safe conduct, as traffic volumes increase during the festive season.
The |Khomas Regional Police Commander, Johanna Ngondo, stressed the importance of responsible driving, urging motorists to remain alert, patient and considerate of other road users.
"We are on the ground. We are only just reinforcing the launch that was already done by the Honourable Minister last month. And just to increase or reinforce our visibility on the road."
She further reminded drivers that adherence to traffic rules and regulations is critical in preventing road crashes.
"The message to our motorists is to drive safe and with caution, they should take their time. There is no need to speed so that they arrive safely at their destination. Life matters most."
The Executive Director in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Nghidinua Daniel, called for compliance with traffic rules and regulations to safeguard lives.
"This is the time to look after one another, to care for one another, which means we have to show the compassion. We need to make sure that we look after each other, we must be considerate. As drivers, we must observe the laws and give full cooperation to the men and women who are there to make sure that we are safe. And our safety is our first responsibility as citizens and drivers."
The campaign will continue throughout the festive season.
