The Bunya C Class Police Station has recorded the highest number of reported cases in the Kavango West Region, with Nkurenkuru town ranking second.
This concerning trend was highlighted during a police community meeting held in Rupara village.
Kavango West Regional Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, said the situation at Bunya C Class Police Station requires urgent attention.
"Bunya Police Station is recording all types of crimes. It's not only a pangwe that was mentioned here. It's not only stock theft that was mentioned here. There are all types; there is a lot. Even assault and GBH are happening here, threatening each other is happening here, and murder is taking place here, as well as rape and theft and all types of crime. Pedestrians are being bumped on the road, and cattle are being bumped on the road. Everything is happening in Bunya."
Meanwhile, parents in attendance raised concern with the late response from the police, lack of transport and the absence of police visibility as contributing factors to the high crime rate.
They blamed their children's uncontrollable behaviour on laws which give more rights to children, limiting them from disciplining them.
Sakuwa-Neo also informed the community that plans are underway to set up a police station at Rupara village to counter the distance and timely police response, once resources are available.
Apart from Rupara village, the regional commander and her team held committee meetings at Sharukwe, Erago, Kasikili and Tondoro villages.
Besides alcohol and drug abuse, the meeting also addressed stock theft, community policing, awareness and education.
