An outgoing Chinese medical team in Namibia has concluded its 18-month mission after treating more than 121,000 patients across the country.
Team leader Huang Qin says the mission not only focused on healthcare delivery but also on strengthening relations between China and Namibia.
"We also set a record by treating 126 patients in a single day; our goal is simple yet something we take pride in. Yes, we want to fulfil our mission, knowing that we are here not just to treat patients but also to serve as messengers."
In its last instalments, the team offered its services and supported the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation Wellness Day, where NBC Director General Stanley Similo highlighted the importance of physical and mental health in maintaining productivity.
"Today's got nothing to do with titles; it's got nothing to do with your position, but everything to do with who we are as a people, and the thing that brings us together is wellness. If wellness does not form part of any organisation, it can have a very negative effect in terms of how we will be performing in terms of the jobs that we do."
Similo stressed the importance of complementary supportive workplace factors, such as empathy, understanding, and compassion.
"A healthy employee naturally breeds a productive environment. In the case of the NBC, any productive environment will put us in the best position where we can actually do a lot of work, insofar as what we need to do, particularly with the difficult mandate that we're having of informing the public."
Initiatives, such as Wellness Day, form part of ongoing efforts to build a resilient, supportive, and productive workforce.
