A private transaction led to the export of three thousand cattle to Mauritius recently.
This was revealed by the Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform Minister. Inge Zaamwani in response to a question by NUDO MP Vetaruhe Kandorozu.
"The public and the farmers' business community want to know about this new market. How was it discovered? How will it benefit the farmers at the grassroots level?"
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR) Inge Zaamwani stated that this was a private transaction that took place through a local auction, with the government only having provided permits and charged levies for the exported products.
"This is a private transaction where the auctioneers are various; just as we normally go and sell our cattle at an auction, they buy as they buy, and they take the cattle thereafter, whether to their own feedlot or to export. That is where it ends. As far as the ministry role is concerned in this matter, it was to issue the necessary payments for export as required by the law, which was done, and also, as required by the law, the necessary levies for those cattle that were exported on the hoof were equally paid to the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia."
