Following recent heavy rains, floodwaters that had submerged parts of the Rehoboth-Windhoek road, approximately three kilometres outside the capital, have now subsided.
However, authorities have cautioned road users to remain vigilant.
Roads Authority Corporate Communication Manager Hileni Fillemon continues to urge motorists to exercise caution, warning that wet conditions still pose a risk.
“We had to caution travellers, especially at night, to be careful when traveling on that section of the road. The water has cleared, and traffic was not affected,” she said.
She also warned about ongoing heavy rains in the Zambezi Region and advised road users to remain vigilant.
“We have received good rains, and the Rehoboth road is fine. However, in the Zambezi Region, heavy rains have caused disruptions, with some schools in villages being cut off from essential services. We are still receiving good rainfall, which is a blessing, but we urge all motorists to adjust their speed according to road conditions. If you notice any damage on national roads—for example, roads connecting towns such as Van Tuk or Kahindra—please report it to your nearest Road Authority office or on our Facebook page, and we will send a team to repair it. Most importantly, do not attempt to drive through water, as you cannot always know its depth. Report any road damage to the Road Authority so that we can attend to it promptly.”
Authorities say that road conditions are being closely monitored to ensure the safety of road users.
