Close to N$600 million has been allocated to the vote for works for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The sector plays a crucial role in ensuring that infrastructure supports economic growth and service delivery.
About N$500 million will be directed towards operational expenditure, with about N$93 million earmarked for capital investments.
The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, stated that the budget will address prevailing challenges related to public infrastructure and the management of state assets while strengthening the government's capacity to deliver efficient and reliable services.
"The department provides technical support to the government in the Department of State Infrastructure, payment of rates and taxes, stores management and optional services through government stores. Vote 23, therefore, provides for technical and institutional support, functional and official accommodation, as well as management and maintenance of government properties. Under this vote, the Department also renders exchanges of technical services to officers, ministries and agencies and regional councils, respectively."
In terms of asset improvement, Nekundi stated that the ministry is committed to upgrading infrastructure and is currently implementing disaster recovery solutions for the 2026-2027 financial year.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare has been allocated a budget of N$417.2 million.
Of this, N$402 million will be directed towards operational expenses and the remaining N$15.2 million for capital projects.
Dr. Emma Kantema said, "Vote 36 therefore speaks to the everyday realities of our people; it speaks to the child who needs protection, to the parent who needs support, and to the survivor who needs shelter and counselling. It speaks to the woman who needs economic empowerment and opportunity, and it also speaks to the boy who needs affirmation, the young men who need guidance, and the family that must be strengthened as a whole."
