The Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) Fund handed over three CCTV cameras worth N$141,000 to the City of Windhoek this morning.

The Chief Executive Officer of the MVA Fund, Rosalia Martins-Haufiku, emphasises that the CCTV cameras serve a dual purpose: they are not only tools for crime surveillance but also crucial for enhancing road safety. They aim to facilitate the early detection of accidents and enable prompt responses.

During the keynote address, Windhoek Mayor Sakaria Uunona said the cameras will be deployed at high-risk interactions and accident hotspots, thereby supporting community policing and road safety.

He further noted that the cameras are equipped with AI-enabled analytics for traffic monitoring.

The Head of City Police, Leevi Ileka, explained that the capacity to combat crime would be enhanced and that the cameras would facilitate the justice system in concluding cases by providing readily available evidence.
