The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, reminded the community of Onaimbungu that independence was not easily attained and should be safeguarded.

He made the remarks at the belated Independence Day celebration at Onaimbungu Village in the Ohangwena region.

Nekundi reiterated that the government remains committed to bringing essential services and development closer to the people, ensuring that all citizens enjoy the fruits of independence.

He assured residents that once funds become available, the government will upgrade the Omundaungilo/Omboloka road to bitumen standards.

Nekundi further announced that clinics would be constructed in the Omundaungilo Constituency, and schools would be expanded to reduce the long distances learners have to travel.

Boreholes will also be drilled.

"The government is also working tirelessly to create job opportunities in key sectors, including teaching, policing, nursing, and other professional fields. Our aim is to honour our promises and deliver on our commitments, no matter the challenges."

He stressed that leaders are expected to serve the nation diligently and urged fellow political leaders to step out of their comfort zones to ensure that the needs of the people are met.

"Being a minister or member of Parliament is not about wearing suits, being driven around, or being treated as a VIP. It is about leadership, responsibility, and service. True leadership requires going the extra mile, connecting with the people, understanding their struggles, feeling their pain, and working tirelessly to address their needs."

Meanwhile, the Office of the Ohangwena Governor has pledged to electrify teachers' houses at Wangushu Combined School.
