Governors Pijoo Nganate of Omaheke and John ||Khamuseb of Otjozondjupa conducted a joint visit to raise awareness on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and strengthen cooperation with farmers to protect livestock.
A farmer in Otjombinde, Tjijai Uanivi, emphasized the importance of safeguarding the veterinary cordon fence:
“As you can see behind me, that is the redline, the border. We want to protect this line to stay foot and mouth free.”
With outbreaks reported in Botswana and South Africa, fears of FMD spreading to Namibia grow.
The community called for an extension of the food-for-work programme to create jobs and foster ownership in fence protection.
