The Roads Authority is satisfied with the rehabilitation work on the Ondobe-Eenhana road, which commenced recently.

The 30-kilometre stretch is being rehabilitated at a cost of N$365 million.

The road, which has reached its lifespan, was an inconvenience, as it was marked by potholes causing damage to vehicles, especially for those that frequent the road in the Ohangwena Region.

Years of deterioration have led to extensive cracking and base failures, raising safety concerns and vehicle operating costs.

The rehabilitation works are being carried out by Unik Construction, which was appointed in December 2025.

The contractor is currently building by-passes to divert traffic and carrying out continuous pothole repairs on the existing road to improve the safety of motorists.

The Roads Authority's Corporate Communication Manager, Hileni Fillemon, says construction activities are progressing well, and the contractor has commenced with ripping and rehabilitation of the critical road section.

The project, supervised by Element Consulting Engineers, will run over a 24-month period, with completion scheduled for April 2028.

The Ondobe-Eenhana road is a key economic link for communities and businesses in Ohangwena which also leads to its capital town, Eenhana.

The Roads Authority urged motorists and pedestrians to obey temporary signage, reduce speed in construction zones, and exercise caution when using the road currently under construction.

The project will create 80 temporary jobs.
