Africa Netball acting president, Rebekka /ǀGoagoses, has called on African countries to unite through sport and invest more in infrastructure development to strengthen netball and empower young athletes across the continent.

/ǀGoagoses made the call during the MTC Namibia National Netball Premier League Power Week, currently underway at the Dome in Swakopmund.

The tournament has brought together the country's top netball teams competing on a newly acquired international-standard sprung floor.

Speaking to NBC Sport News during Africa Day commemorations, /ǀGoagoses said unity remains important in promoting growth and development in African sport.

She further stressed the importance of infrastructure investment, saying African governments must move beyond policies and focus on implementation.

"Unity in Africa is very important because when we support one another, we can achieve greater things for the benefit of our athletes and future generations. We cannot continue talking about policies without implementation. Infrastructure development is important to prepare our players for international standards and ensure their safety.”

/ǀGoagoses also praised Netball Namibia for introducing the sprung floor, describing it as an important step towards aligning the sport with global standards.

She encouraged young African athletes not to lose hope, adding that Africa Netball aims to see more countries equipped with modern facilities.

Meanwhile, she urged African countries to prepare for the upcoming Africa Netball qualifiers scheduled for September in Nairobi, Kenya, where teams will compete for places at the Netball World Cup.

“This year is a very important year for Netball in Africa. Since we are going to have the Africa qualifiers from 16 to 26 of September in Nairobi, Kenya, so, meaning at that stage, four teams will qualify for the World Cup, Uganda and South Africa already qualified because of their ranking status we only have two sports left so meaning it will be a tough competition all over the country Africa, Namibia, wherever you are prepare yourself and go support your country in Nairobi Kenya.”

/ǀGoagoses also described the Power Week as a milestone for Namibian netball and encouraged the public to support the sport. The games end on Saturday.
