||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze has raised concerns over the mushrooming of unaccredited institutions.
He made these remarks at the one-day Namibia National Qualifications Authority (NQA) information session held in Keetmanshoop on Thursday.
The consultative engagement aimed to create awareness of the new policy implementation. The policy aims to address the current challenges and opportunities encountered through the training and qualifications system.
"It is beneficial for us to have a variety of institutions providing health training; however, my concern is that these struggling individuals, due to a lack of knowledge, are paying registration fees and other costs, only to discover that the education or qualifications they receive are not accredited. This situation forces them to start over, which is clearly not an ideal outcome."
Gertze further called for continuous public awareness campaigns on the part of NQA.
NQA's Manager for the National Qualification Framework. Fillemon Iyambo said the accreditation policy and regulation are under review.
"I must emphasise that we have identified gaps in our latest registers, and we are currently addressing these issues while reviewing our act and the regulations concerning the accreditation and evaluation of qualifications, as well as the registration of qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)."
Participants expressed concerns over the lack of information on the accreditation status of institutions.
NQA advised them to always contact them directly to obtain accurate and reliable information about any institution before applying.
