The Otjiwarongo Municipality Fire and Emergency Services Division has demonstrated new firefighting technology known as the "grass blower" aimed at improving response to bush and grass fires.

The demonstration took place during the Standard Bank Biomass Fair and Industry Conference in Otjiwarongo.

The technology is being explored as an additional tool in firefighting, particularly in areas with large amounts of biomass and during Namibia's dry season, when veld fires pose a significant risk to communities, livestock, and the environment.

Chief of the Fire Department of the Otjiwarongo Municipality, Daniel Pavaza explained.

“It's a machine that's very new on the market. It is used for blowing fires and flames away from the area that is not on fire.”

The demonstration highlighted the importance of adopting innovative firefighting methods as Namibia's biomass industry continues to grow.
