A family of seven in Hakahana, Windhoek, has been left homeless after their house caught fire on Monday morning.
The house owner, Rachel Mwanyekele, recalled leaving the house to buy food and other necessities with plans to travel to the north the following day.
“Everything in the house burned to ashes, including our documents. So we need help.”
One of the children who was playing outside saw the blaze.
"Junior, who was one of those playing, went to drink water and saw the fire. He called the neighbours for help, and it is one of them who called me; however, when I arrived, the house was totally gutted by fire,” said one of the victim’s sons, Onesmus Joseph.
The family could not save any of their belongings and are left with only the clothes on their backs.
However, kind neighbours gave them a few items, but rebuilding their lives will be difficult.
