Coblenz Combined School in the Okakarara Constituency has celebrated its seven decades of educating generations of learners and contributing to the development of the community.

The celebrations brought together current and former learners, teachers, parents, traditional leaders and government representatives to celebrate the school's milestone and reflect on its legacy.

Okakarara Constituency Councillor Uzeraije Tjaverua said learners have a greater chance of succeeding when stakeholders support education.

"To the learners of Coplens Primary School, I want you to look around you today and understand that you are standing on the shoulders of generations that came before you. You are now part of the next chapter of this school history. Do not tell yourself that because you come from a smaller community, your dreams must also be small. Dream big, work hard, respect your parents and teachers, and take your education seriously."

The school's patron, Zebra Kasete, encouraged learners to venture into agriculture, saying it should not be viewed as an option for those struggling in school.

"Agriculture is a scientific business. We need people who understand the soil. We need people who understand the water. We need people who can find the water. We need people who understand the weather. Just to start with, even before you start anything, those things are basic. We also know exactly, Mr. Tjirare, what can be planted in this place, whether it's fruits or veggies, which can grow because of the weather pattern. Teachers can learn that stuff. Then you need people who know fertilisers, pesticides, and then just the actual planting itself. We need people who can lay pipes and mechanical agricultural engineers."

The anniversary is not only a celebration of its history but also a call for improvement in the school infrastructure in effect to build a stronger future for the next generation of learners.
