NamPower has launched its Integrated Strategic Business Plan for 2026 to 2030, outlining its priorities for electricity security, affordability and reduced reliance on imports.

The launch coincides with the power utility's 30th anniversary, marking three decades of supplying electricity to Namibia.

 The plan builds on progress made under the previous strategic business plan and aligns with the Public Enterprises Governance Act of 2019.

Speaking on behalf of Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Gaudentia Kröhne, Director of Energy John Titus highlighted the need to reduce Namibia's dependence on imported electricity while keeping costs affordable for consumers.

"By 2030, I hope we can return to this plan and speak in human terms. More homes with power they can use, more businesses able to grow, more Namibian minerals processed here, and less of our money spent on energy we could produce ourselves."

NamPower continues to rely on electricity imports, which remain above 50% of the country's supply.

The utility says the new plan will focus on keeping the lights on, making electricity more affordable and supporting the government's National Development Plan and National Integrated Resource Plan.

Managing Director Kahenge Haulofu reflected on the company's achievements since 1996 while acknowledging the changing energy landscape and the need to maintain security of supply.

"30 years is a proud milestone, but the journey continues. As we look ahead, we are mindful that the world will continue to change at a rapid pace, and so also the environment within which we operate. Our strategies over the years served as well, allowing us to take responsive actions and make collective efforts in ensuring security of supply."

NamPower has also recorded growth in its financial position over the years.

Its profit after tax increased from N$193 million in 1999 to N$1.4 billion, while its asset base expanded from N$3.8 billion to N$59 billion.

The company says it remains committed to supporting Namibia's development goals and strengthening the country's electricity supply over the next five years.
