President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has welcomed Namport's N$90 million commitment to Namibian football, stating that the three-year sponsorship supports the government's broader development agenda and its renewed focus on sport.

The funding, announced at State House today, will provide N$30 million annually to football and is expected to drive development across all 14 regions.

The eighth administration has placed sport among its key development priorities, linking investment in the sector to youth development, employment opportunities, and broader national goals.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah described Namport's commitment as a vital partnership between the government, public enterprises, and football authorities. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, who serves as Patron of the Namibia Football Association, alongside the Namport board and management for establishing the funding agreement.

The President noted that supporting football across all 14 regions directly complements government efforts to expand sporting infrastructure and create community opportunities nationwide. She stressed that football must be viewed as a viable career pathway for young people rather than merely a social activity.

To match this increased financial backing, Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the need for well-organised competitions, improved administration, and structures capable of developing players and industry professionals.

Emphasising accountability, the President reminded football authorities that the funds must be used for their intended purpose to yield measurable benefits. She concluded by calling on other institutions to collaborate in advancing national development objectives through sport and other sectors.
