Jonas officially named Namibia’s flag bearer

KATRINA GOWASES Boxing sensation Junius Jonas has officially been named Namibia's flag bearer for the Olympic Sommer Games, beginning this Friday in Rio de Janeiro. The honor was handed over to Junius Jonas by the Namibia National Olympic Committee's (NNOC) President, Abner Xoagub. He will lead a team of ten athletes at the Games in Brazil. Junius burst onto the scene in dramatic fashion by clinching the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland's capital Glasgow after a narrow loss to Josh Taylor in 2014. Since then, the 22-year old from Swakopmund has been one of Namibia's most successful athletes, underlining his exceptional quality by securing the second place at the All Africa Games last year in Congo Brazzaville. Despite his enormous success in recent years, the reserved boxer has set his sight on the grand price at this year's Olympic Summer Games. He is determined to win a gold medal.
