Development at Okakarara picks up

The Okakarara Town Council says it is making efforts to improve road infrastructure, sewerage, and water reticulation, as well as satisfy the demand for housing in the town.

Okakarara is situated a few kilometres east of the Waterberg Mountain in the Otjozondjupa Region and is home to just over 7,000 inhabitants. 

The Chief Executive Officer of the town, Ehrnst Katjiku, told nbc News that the council is operating on a shoestring budget. 

The council received N$1.3 million for road infrastructure maintenance for this financial year.

The Okakarara Municipality Chief Executive Officer, Ehrnst Katjiku, says Namibians should take pride in their beautifully crafted Constitution by the late President Hage Geingob and his fellow Constituent Assembly members. 

Katjiku made these remarks at the Okakarara town's candlelight vigil in honour of Geingob, where residents gathered to remember his goodwill and leadership.

According to Katjiku, the country's constitution is the envy of other African countries, and as such, Namibians must take pride in the document.

Okakarara land grabbers refuse to vacate the land earmarked for airport

Land grabbers at Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa Region still refuse to vacate the land earmarked for the airport and the construction of houses by the Shack Dwellers Federation.

When the nbc News crew arrived at the site, we found some residents still busy erecting shacks.

Residents say they decided to settle on the piece of land as they did not receive feedback on their applications for land.
