Rundu Town Council can improve infrastructure despite outstanding debt

The leader of the Landless Peoples Movement (LPM), Bernadus Swartbooi, is convinced that the town council of Rundu can improve its infrastructure, despite outstanding debt by residents running into millions of dollars.

He said this at an LPM rally at Rundu. 

Rundu residents owe the town council N$370 million.

Swapo Chief Whip in the National Assembly, Hamunyera Hambyuka, moved a motion without notice urging for consideration and approval of Gerson Tjihenuna and Pius Iikwambi as members of the Electoral Commission of Namibia, nominated by the President under Section 6 of the Electoral Act for a five-year term. 

The motion seeks to ensure fairness, impartiality, and transparency in election processes. 

Hambyuka emphasised the importance of approving the nominated members, highlighting their relevant experience outlined in their curriculum vitae.

Henny Seibeb urged to refrain from cursing in the National Assembly

The National Assembly on Tuesday started off on a rocky note as the Speaker, Professor Peter Katjavivi, asked Landless People's Movement (LPM) MP Henny Seibeb to refrain from cursing and using foul language in the house.

This instruction led LPM leader Bernadus Swartbooi and his right-hand man, Seibeb, to walk out of parliament.

Seibeb, who is alleged to have insulted a fellow MP and threatened to harm him on Monday, was asked to withdraw the statement, which he refused.
