The University of Namibia (UNAM) has recorded a surge in student enrolment following the introduction of subsidised tertiary education.

This, UNAM Vice Chancellor Keneth Matengu said, has provided opportunities to many aspiring graduates.

The ||Kharas Education Director, Nicolaas Eiman, has described the draft National Integrated Early Childhood Development (ECD) Policy as aiming to increase accessibility for children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, to ECD centres. 

Johannes Tjitumba (35), a visually impaired student pursuing a degree in public management at the University of Namibia, hopes to use his lived experiences to advocate for systemic reforms that improve access to education and employment for visually impaired individuals. 

Student representatives have raised concerns over the government's updated subsidised funding model, saying while access to funding has expanded, accommodation remains a major obstacle for many young people seeking higher education, especially in the capital city.

Youth activist Gabes Eigowab, from the Omitara settlement, has said limited exposure and a lack of educational institutions and job opportunities continue to hinder motivated young people, despite government inclusivity efforts.

Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of Education, Edda Bohn, is reiterating that those who enrolled their children in unregistered schools should take them to formal government schools. 

Youth of the Commonwealth have called on member states to design and ensure digital education tools for marginalised communities in rural areas.
