Plans for the construction of the Nkurenkuru District Hospital are back on track after a 12-year delay.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was initially held in 2014.

The donation of three portable ultrasound probes to the Ministry of Health and Social Services should go a long way toward faster clinical assessments and improved patient turnover at public health centres. 

The Minister of Health and Social Services (MoHSS), Esperance Luvindao, was more displeased than happy when she recently inaugurated a multi-million dollar office building for the Oshakati Hospital management team. 

In her view, there is more need to build health facilities than offices.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced that the new 120-bed maternity facility at the Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital is almost complete.

The facility will feature first-stage and second-stage rooms, a spacious reception area, a procedure room and a gynaecology theatre.

Oshana Region is in need of a district hospital to decongest the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, which serves as a referral hospital.

Oshana Health Director Johanna Haimene made this statement during a visit by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health, Social Welfare, and Labour Affairs.

Residents of Oshikunde's Onamafila village and the surrounding areas are calling for urgent action as their recently constructed primary health care clinic remains closed more than a year after completion.
