OVAMBANDERU COMMUNITY MARKS NGUVAUVA COMMEMORATION

The Ovambanderu community and other members of the public converged on Okahandja last weekend to mark the 130th anniversary of the execution of erstwhile Ovambanderu leader Kahimemua Nguvauva.

Nguvauva was executed by firing squad on June 12, 1896, in Okahandja.

Speaking at the same event, Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa says most traditional leadership wrangles are fueled by educated people. 

Sankwasa emphasised that the government is resolute in changing the narrative.

|KHOMANIN COMMUNITY VOTES TO REMOVE CHIEF

The final results within the |Khomas Region show that members of the |Khomanin community voted in favour of removing Chief Juliane Gawa!nas through a vote of no confidence, with 889 votes supporting the motion and 87 opposing it.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development says at this stage it cannot confirm the validity of the elections held by the |Khomanin community to remove their Gaos Juliane Gawa-!Nas and her council from the office.

A vote of no confidence was instituted against Gaos Gawa-!Nas and her council on 16 May. 

ARUVITA KAYOKA APPOINTED GCIRIKU HOMPA

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has announced Aruvita Kayoka as the Hompa of the Gciriku Traditional Authority. 

Sankwasa made the announcement at the Gciriku Traditional Authority's headquarters at Ndiyona in Kavango East.

Sankwasa said only a few other stakeholders need to be consulted before putting the matter to rest.
