The African Monarch Lodges in Katima Mulilo have come to the rescue of a family of a blind senior citizen at Kongola by settling her loan of about N$41,000.

A group of Katima Mulilo residents staged a demonstration and submitted a petition to the Katima Mulilo Town Council to formally object to the proposed sale and lease of land by them.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) held a stakeholder engagement at Katima Mulilo to assess their readiness for the supplementary registration of voters slated for the 4th to the 19th of August 2025.

The Zambezi Region records an average of 34 cases of gender-based violence on a monthly basis. 

According to a regional review by NamPol’s GBV unit, 90% of the victims are female and 10% are male.

The business community and residents of Katima Mulilo say a lack of consultation on development matters by the council has resulted in stagnation. 

They raised this concern during a consultative meeting with the Minister for Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has confronted the Katima Mulilo Town Council over a controversial land-vehicle exchange.

The minister demanded an immediate review of the procedure for valuing the exchanged vehicles versus the land.

It has been 14 years, and the Masokotwani Development Centre in Katima Mulilo is still incomplete due to underfunding.

Residents of Nova Compound at Katima Mulilo are appealing to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to address challenges they face.

Nova Compound was established about six years ago and lacks most basic services.
