Defence and Veterans Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi, Presidential Advisor Christine ||Hoebes, and Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge were amongst the high-ranking officials who visited the family of the late Solomon Hawala this morning at his homestead in Ohakweenyanga village near Ondangwa in the Oshana Region.

Details of the memorial service and funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

Minister Kapofi remained tight-lipped about the possibility of a state or a heroes funeral, as only President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah can accord such an honour.

Kapofi described the late Hawala as a revered and strategic freedom fighter who, alongside other members of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia, the Swapo military wing, managed to liberate Namibia from the yoke of colonialism.

Fellow veterans of the liberation struggle and members of the Former Plan Combatants Association from the Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Ohangwena regions were also there to pay tribute to Hawala.

Speaking on behalf of the veterans, Flavianus Uukule described the late Hawala as a dedicated and unwavering freedom fighter who remained committed to the cause. His legacy, he said, will be remembered for his contributions to Namibia's fight for independence.
