Stakeholders in the Kavango East and West regions propose that the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund increase its funeral grants to N$50,000.
The proposal was made during a consultative meeting held at Rundu by the MVA Fund to amend the Motor Vehicle Accident Act 10 of 2007.
This consultation provides a valuable platform for participants to share their perspectives and directly shape the legislative reforms of the Fund.
Currently, the MVA provides a N$7,000 funeral grant.
The MVA Fund currently provides various benefits, including injury, funeral, and medical grants.
In line with its mandate, the Fund compensates individuals injured or dependents of those killed in motor vehicle accidents, including those involving electric or gas-powered vehicles.
Funding for the MVA Fund comes from a fuel tax system, with levies collected through the National Energy Fund.
The meeting was attended by stakeholders from both the Kavango East and West regions at Rundu.
