A 33-year-old man is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court tomorrow for allegedly killing his two children on Sunday night in the Omuntele constituency of the Oshikoto region.

The gruesome incident, confirmed by Oshikoto Police Regional Commander Commissioner Ndafudha Lifo, sent shockwaves across the country as news broke this morning.

Details surrounding the murders remain unclear, but preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, the biological father, returned home from Windhoek with his two children on Friday.

It's alleged that the suspect assaulted the mother of the children in Windhoek before fleeing with the two children.

But on Sunday afternoon, it is alleged, he took the children from his homestead, and not far from there, he allegedly brutally killed them.

The suspect fled the scene but handed himself over to police at Okatope on Monday morning.

Members of the family went to the crime scene after receiving text messages from the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the crimes and also revealed where the bodies of the children were.

An NBC News crew found the mother of the suspect in an inconsolable state, saying she does not comprehend the deaths of her innocent grandchildren.

"I am so saddened by this horrific act that has us in shock. I don't know why he would choose to kill innocent children instead of opting to speak out or end his own life. I am at a loss for words for this big loss of my two young grandchildren, who were just here, happy during their stay. What he did is really bad," she said.

A family member, Otto Uusiku, is appealing for assistance to bury the children, as their grandmother is unable to raise funds for a double burial.

"As a family, we are requesting assistance to assist in the preparation of the burials of the children because their grandmother is a pensioner. Assistance of any kind will be highly appreciated in this very challenging time as we try to understand what led him to commit the gruesome acts."
