The mother of a 36-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend in Epanya village, Okatana Constituency, revealed years of abuse from her son.

She narrated how, in June, she asked him to leave her house due to verbal abuse.

The man was arrested for the brutal killing of 31-year-old Ndilimeke Heelu, who suffered deep wounds believed to be from a panga found near her body yesterday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and the deceased, who shared a three-year-old son, were living together. After committing the murder, the suspect took the child, who witnessed the killing, to his mother’s homestead, about 600 meters away, using a borrowed wheelbarrow. He allegedly left the boy there, telling his mother, "Here is your wheelbarrow."

The deceased’s mother noticed that the child had blood spattered on him and was in a panic. They rushed to the couple’s shack, where she found the door wide open and Heelu’s body lying motionless in a pool of blood.

The grandmother also recounted a past incident where another son attempted to kill her, resulting in severe injuries. She is seeking counselling to cope with ongoing trauma.

The suspect is expected to appear in Oshakati Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. Investigations continue.
