The Namibian police in the ||Kharas Region say they are fully prepared for the upcoming elections, with manpower and resources deployed to ensure safe and smooth voting.
The Divisional Head of Crime Prevention in the Kharas region, Deputy Commissioner Godfried Kauhanda, told NBC News that the police teams have been fully briefed and deployed to all 106 polling stations across the region's seven constituencies.
"We have got 106 polling points that will be manned by men and women in uniform, so we are going to deploy 212 members who are currently ready to take on these very important challenges. These members will deploy to all seven constituencies, so we all know that ECN has acquired some private vehicles to assist with transport, so every polling point will be manned by two members, which means every private vehicle will be going out with two members."
Kauhanda added that 14 officers have already been deployed for special voting, scheduled for November 24th, and detectives have been appointed to fast-track investigations into related election offences.
"We are also anticipating the special voting that is on the 24th. We have already deployed 14 members because that one is more restricted; it is not going to be like previously, where most of the police officers will be voting. That one will strictly be for those who will be deployed at ECN points and will be allowed to vote out of their constituencies. We also appointed detectives to investigate election-related cases to speed up the process and forward the docket to the Prosecutor General on time."
He said no major challenges were identified, and the Namibian Police remains on high alert while confident that elections in the Kharas region will proceed peacefully.
