The Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda have reported a combined 240 cases of Ebola with 80 fatalities, including four healthcare workers.
The World Health Organisation, as well as the Africa Centre for Disease Control, confirmed the outbreak and interventions to curb the spread.
As of the 16th of May, 246 suspected cases were confirmed, while 80 Ebola-related deaths have been reported in the Ituri Province of the DRC across three health zones: Bunia, Rwampara and Mongbwalu.
Kampala, Uganda, reported two cases, including one fatality, of individuals who had travelled from the DRC.
Unusual clusters of community deaths with symptoms compatible with Bundibugyo virus disease have also been reported across several health zones in Ituri and North Kivu.
There is, however, a limited understanding of the epidemiological links with known or suspected cases.
