The Governor of ||Kharas, Dawid Gertze, has encouraged young people to embrace their historical roots and understand the painful history of genocide committed against their ancestors by the German colonisers. 

Tomorrow, the 28th of May, Namibia observes its second annual Genocide Remembrance Day – a solemn national holiday dedicated to reflecting on the 1904-1908 atrocities committed against the Nama and Ovaherero people.

The Speaker of the National Assembly encouraged Namibians to unite and reflect on their history and its impact on society in remembrance of Genocide Day.

Saraa Kuugongelwa-Amadhila made the call during her message of genocide remembrance at the National Assembly.

Shark Island, located off the coast of Luderitz, serves as a stark reminder of the atrocities committed by the German regime against the Nama and Ovaherero people during the 1904-1908 genocide.

Meanwhile, a cattle parade show at the Omaludi Festival was called off at the last minute after an untested buffalo was spotted roaming the Okongo area.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah announced the cancellation and apologised to exhibitors and visitors who traditionally enjoy the segment.
