The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has identified 295 supplementary registration points in the Kavango East Region as preparations intensify for the upcoming Regional Council and Local Authority elections set for November.
A total of 192 registration officials have been recruited to facilitate the process.
Speaking at a regional stakeholder meeting in Rundu, Regional Election Officer Paulus Sifire emphasised the importance of a clean and reliable voter roll.
"A credible voters register is essential for free, fair and transparent election. Our registration supervisors are already deployed and stationed at all constituencies within the Kavango East region," said Sifire.
He encouraged stakeholders to work closely with the ECN to raise voter awareness, particularly among new voters and those who may have relocated or lost their voter cards.
Police Commissioner Andreas Haingura of the Kavango East Region urged political parties to maintain peace and resolve concerns through the proper channels.
"If there are things you see which are not going right, please let us knock at the right offices so that the matter can be dealt with immediately, rather than to spread rumors to indicate that we are confused or not matured enough to handle any situation. So my appeal is, let us really do it in a peaceful way," said Haingura.
Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, Damian Maghambayi, called on the ECN to address the logistical challenges experienced during previous elections.
It was also announced that about 81 private vehicles will be required across the region to support the registration efforts.
