The Minister of Information and Communication Technology has emphasised the need for Namibia to invest in and strengthen collaboration on space technologies with countries, such as neighbouring Angola.
Emma Theofelus praised the neighbouring country's significant advancements in satellite communications.
The two countries demonstrated their ability to collaborate in satellite technology when Theofelus held a live satellite video call with her Angolan counterpart, Mario Augusto da Silva, who was also concluding World Space Week in Luanda.
Angola has made progress in the space sector, having launched ANGOSAT-1, its first communication satellite, and more recently ANGOSAT-2.
Theofelus added that Angola's progress in the space sector offers valuable lessons and partnership opportunities for Namibia as it seeks to expand its space technology capacity.
The acting Executive Director also partook in the call with da Silvas Oliveira. Linda Aipinge-Nakale said she is excited that rural communities are going to benefit from this initiative.
Aipinge-Nakale said this collaboration signifies a very important step in the milestone in the sector and shows how satellite connectivity can bridge the digital gap.
This collaboration underscores the close bilateral ties and shared interest between the two SADC nations in advancing space technology and communication infrastructure.
