President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on party leaders to ensure that the recent election victory is translated into tangible results and improvements in the people's living standard.
Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also the President of the Swapo Party, said this at the opening of the party's Central Committee meeting in Windhoek.
The President warned the newly elected councillors that service delivery will be closely monitored, stressing that leadership positions are about serving the people, not holding titles.
"I also want to assure our citizens that the leadership of the Swapo Party does not take the trust of the Namibian people for granted. The message from the voters is very clear. They are telling us to deliver, improve, and work hard. There should be no business as usual. As leaders of the Swapo Party, we must be fully aware of the expectation of the Namibian people and remain committed to working towards improving the standard of living and livelihood of our citizens, whether in the rural areas or in urban centres. We are monitoring your efforts to ensure you deliver quality service to the people of this nation. And I want to be very clear that the Swapo Party will not hesitate to take appropriate action to ensure service delivery to the nation. We were not elected for titles. We were elected to serve, and we must serve without failure."
Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah also highlighted achievements in agriculture, youth development, debt reduction and governance.
She said green schemes are showing progress in food production, with strong potential for food self-sufficiency and job creation in line with the Swapo Party's 2024 Election Manifesto.
She also noted that the National Youth Development Fund has so far supported 108 youth enterprises, creating an estimated 719 jobs, with more beneficiaries expected as applications reopen.
"As we strengthen service delivery, grow the economy and create opportunities for all Namibians. Agriculture, as we know, we have identified it as our priority number one. In southern regions, I observed the same progress in food production. This green scheme holds significant potential for food self-sufficiency and job creation. The Swapo Party government will continue to focus more closely on the agricultural sector in line with the 2024 Swapo Party election manifesto. In the process, the government has also launched the National Youth Development Fund, from which our young people are now benefiting."
