The Secretary General of the Swapo Party, Sophia Shaningwa, yesterday paid tribute to veteran politician and liberation stalwart Erkki Nghimtina, describing him as a dedicated servant of both the liberation struggle and the Namibian nation.

Speaking while offering condolences to the bereaved family, Shaningwa said Nghimtina played a critical role in communications during the liberation struggle, a responsibility that helped prevent significant loss of life.

The Secretary General further highlighted Nghimtina’s contributions to national development after independence, noting his service in various Cabinet roles. She described him as instrumental in advancing visible and tangible infrastructure development.

Nghimtina, who also served as a member of the party’s Central Committee, was described by Shaningwa as having served diligently, honestly, and with a firm commitment to the party’s principles.

Shaningwa extended condolences to the Nghimtina family, saying the nation had lost a disciplined freedom fighter, a loyal party member, and a committed patriot whose legacy will endure.

She was accompanied by the Ohangwena and Omusati regional Swapo leadership.
