Proflight Zambia, the largest privately owned commercial airline, has launched its first direct route between Lusaka and Windhoek to improve air travel between the two countries.

The service is expected to enhance business travel, deepen bilateral relations between the two countries and promote tourism.

Zambia's Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali explained that the direct route will reduce travel time for passengers.

He indicated that the airline is a testament that the two countries share a goal for growth to support economic transportation and explore new opportunities.

"This new service is a clear testament to what can be achieved through strong bilateral cooperation and a shared commitment to regional integration. I wish to sincerely commend the government of the Republic of Namibia for its collaboration, partnership and continued commitment to deepening transport and economic linkages with Zambia. Our two nations share not only borders but a common vision for growth and prosperity."

The airline operates three times per week, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Jennely Matudu also emphasised that the airline will enhance regional integration, connectivity and provide regional mobility.

She was speaking on behalf of the Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi.

The Chief Executive Officer at the Namibia Airports Company Bisey /Uirab described the new developments as a milestone.

"For us at the Namibia Aborts Company, this new route carries significant operational and strategic value. It enhances passenger throughput, expands cargo handling potential, improves connectivity for business and leisure travels as well as strengthening the optimal utilisation of our airport infrastructure."
