Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa has handed over a new house to an elderly woman with a disability at Oshandi Village.
Lucia Petrus's previous homestead was damaged by a rainstorm in 2023, and due to financial constraints, she could not afford to build a new structure, as she relies solely on her monthly grant from the government.
The new home was built with help from local unemployed youth and has an indoor shower, toilet and a bedroom. The building of the house was funded by the office of the Ohangwena governor.
Handing over the building, Ohangwena governor Kadiva Hamutumwa said the region's leadership will continue to care for the well-being of vulnerable people in both urban and rural settings of the region.
Ondobe Constituency councillor Helaria Ndjuuluwa praised the government for responding swiftly to the pensioner's needs, saying it's a demonstration of the government's commitment to prompt action in addressing its people's needs and challenges.
Petrus was grateful for the new home, saying it would improve her living conditions, as it has been custom-built.
