A group of unemployed enrolled nurses has called on the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) for a fair, transparent and centralised recruitment process.

Omuthiya Constituency Councillor Erastus Nekomba has called on nurses to love their work, saying nursing is a calling and not just a job.

Nekomba paid a visit to Omuthiya District Hospital and Omuthiya Health Care Centre to familiarise himself with their operations.

Nurses and healthcare workers in Tsumeb benefited from a specialised palliative care training programme.

The training was aimed at strengthening the delivery of home-based healthcare services.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda have reported a combined 240 cases of Ebola with 80 fatalities, including four healthcare workers.

These were messages from speakers that dominated the International Nurses Day commemoration held at Keetmanshoop District Hospital. 

The first National Namibian Nurses Seminar took place in Windhoek, focusing on sharing advanced nursing practices, enhancing patient care, and addressing challenges within the healthcare sector.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Esperance Luvindao, has stated that Namibia's public health workers are the second-highest paid in the SADC region.

The Executive Director in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, said plans are ongoing to address inequities and constraints to accessing health facilities.

Also to be reviewed is the conduct of healthcare workers and perceived shortcomings in project management.

The festive season is a time for love, joy, and cherished memories, but for essential workers, it's a season of service and sacrifice. 

Healthcare workers are among the essential workers who are still caring for the sick.
