Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa has reiterated calls on Namibians to seek help and express their emotions as a means to reduce suicide.

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture (MEIYSAC) has expressed shock over the suicide deaths of three teachers from the Enyana Combined School, Eenhana Secondary School, and Ohehonge Combined School in the Ohangwena region.

A man allegedly killed his wife in Windhoek's Greenwell Matongo locality in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police in a statement said 53-year-old Alweendo David allegedly shot his wife, forty-three-year-old Elizabeth Nepando Hambelela Alweendo, at their home in Greenwell Matongo.

A 14-year-old boy committed suicide in Windhoek's Otjomuise residential area.

According to the police report, Elgen Mogle was allegedly sent to the shops by his grandmother to buy a few foodstuffs for the house in the afternoon.

Police in Keetmanshoop have reported a tragic incident involving a local resident who committed suicide by driving his NP 300 Nissan Bakkie head-on into an oncoming truck, resulting in his death.

A 49-year-old man was found dead in an alleged suicide by hanging at his home in Katutura on Sunday, 20 October 2024. The discovery was made by his uncle at around 07:30 in his room on Hans Uirab Street.

A middle-aged man committed suicide this afternoon in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency in Ombili.

The man allegedly came to Windhoek from the Oshikoto Region for a job interview and was living with a friend.

Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have raised concerns about the increasing cases of suicide. They are now appealing to the public going through problems and challenges to seek help instead of taking their own lives.

The concern follows after police recorded three suicides of security forces in one week.

Two of the three suicides reported are of women in their 40s.

At Oshifo's Omumbonde Village, Lucia Pokanana (47) allegedly hanged herself at home, as did 44-year-old Meriam Kairi from Orwetoveni at Otjiwarongo.

The Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka, says exam results cause anxiety amongst learners and that they need support at all times. 

Nghipondoka said this after an incident where a 17-year-old male learner, Shatiwa Nghifilenga, allegedly committed suicide after failing Grade 11.
