Police in the Ohangwena Region have expressed concern over the rising number of suicide cases and other serious crimes recorded in the region over the past three years.

Police Commander Ottilie Kashuupulwa says 189 suicide cases were recorded since 2023, of which 37 are this year alone.

POLICE REPORT 486 SUICIDE CASES IN 2025/26

The police reported 486 suicide cases across the country during the 2025/2026 government financial year. 

Of these, 390 were men, 83 women, nine boys and four girls.

A passerby walking along the beach south of the Swakopmund jetty discovered the body early this morning after it washed ashore around 9:00.
