A heated debate in the National Assembly led to opposition MPs walking out of the chamber in protest. 

The dispute arose over a motion tabled by the Swapo party's Philipus Katamelo, proposing an amendment to Rule 2 of the Standing Rules and Orders.

Various opposition political parties gathered in Windhoek ahead of the High Court hearing on the National Assembly election dispute tomorrow and expressed their support for the cases filed by the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) and the Landless People's Movement (LPM).

The Electoral Court is set to hear arguments from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) and the Landless People's Movement (LPM) on Friday.

After the 2021 elections, opposition parties gained control of a number of local and regional authorities, forming coalitions in the absence of an outright majority.

Opposition parties again walked out of the National Assembly in protest of what they termed the bias of the Speaker in the way he handled parliament.
