The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has confirmed that 20 people were involved in the Mariental car accident, with 16 fatalities.

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, in partnership with the Law Reform Commission, has engaged stakeholders in the  ||Kharas  Region to provide their input on the proposed amendments to the MVA Fund Act. 

The consultative meeting was held in Keetmanshoop. 

The Law Reform and Development Commission, in collaboration with the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, is reviewing the MVA Fund Act.

Proposed amendments to the legislation will now be subjected to nationwide consultations.

John Haufiku, Chief of Corporate Communications at the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, has raised concerns about the increase in pedestrian-related accidents, reporting that four to five such incidents occur each week.

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has expressed concern over the rise in pedestrian-related crashes and fatalities across Namibia, particularly in the regions of Kavango East, Oshikoto, Omusati, Oshana, and Zambezi and |Khomas.

To reduce and ultimately prevent road fatalities during the festive season, the National Road Safety Council has launched the 2024-2025 Road Safety Campaign in Tsumeb.

Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, emphasized that most road accidents are a result of user behavior.

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has inaugurated an N$11 million service centre at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.

The establishment of the MVA office in the region is aimed at bringing services closer to the people and subsequently preserving and protecting lives on the road.

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, in collaboration with the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), the Roads Authority (RA), and traffic officers from the Namibian and City Police, launched a week-long road safety campaign in Windhoek.

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund recorded ten fatalities since the 10th of December.

Its Senior Accident and Injury Prevention Officer, Abner Iitumba, is calling on road users to be extra cautious on the road.

As road carnage continues to claim the lives of Namibians at an alarming rate, Otjozondjupa Region, which is one of the accident-prone hotspot regions, has recorded a decline in fatalities and injuries to date as compared to 2022.
