Compared to last year’s crime statistics for the festive season period of November to December, most crime categories across the regions have increased this year, with only three type murder, culpable homicide, and protected game products showing a decrease.
The Police report indicated that the upward trend suggests high criminal activity during the 2025 festive period, likely influenced by increased social movement, alcohol consumption, and economic pressures commonly associated with this time of year.
The report also highlighted the need for intensified policing operations, enhanced crime prevention initiatives, and stronger community engagement during the festive season.
It says focused interventions targeting high incidences of crimes and hotspot regions are essential to curb the rising trend and improve public safety.
The report, which compared last year’s and this year’s festive season statistics, also acknowledged the government’s efforts to tackle GBV through reporting, awareness campaigns, and legal measures, while noting that significant challenges remain.
These include the high number of reported cases, cultural norms, and issues such as underreported and emerging forms of digital abuse; hence, the need for continuous effort and collaboration.
